Old Glory Drum Shop

handcrafted quality in the time honored tradition The Old Glory Drum Shop is located in the Historical center of New Canaan, Connecticut. In a building recognized by the Register of National Historic Landmarks, U.S. Department of the Interior, the Old Glory Drum is made.

In this historic building, situated amongst a one-room school house circa 1799, a building of old tools and a print shop, both of a bygone era, an atmosphere is created in which the Old Glory Drums are made where time is not of the essence.

Without the use of machines, each drum shell and hoop is hand formed. There are no great technical or sound breakthroughs made at the Old Glory Drum Shop. Instead, emphasis is placed on the continuation of a time honored way of working with one's hands to turn out a fine product. When you consider purchasing a machine-made drum you must realize that a fine quality drum made by a real drum maker is much more valuable over the years than the factory mass-produced drum.
Robert puts the finishing touches on the shield of a Civil War-era Klemm drum.

Each drum is made by a third generation woodworker who is the only drum maker in the United States of America that personally makes his own shells, hoops, leather work, hardware and drumsticks, and plays in a band, in fact, the oldest band in the U.S., the Mattatuck Drum Band of Waterbury, Conn. (1767)

The Old Glory Drum Shop also specializes in the repair and restoration of Moeller, Soistman and Civil War-era drums.
